Srinagar, Mar 28 (KNO): A total of 5,244 contempt cases are pending before the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh as of March 24, 2025, according to data presented in the Lok Sabha by the Ministry of Law and Justice. The figures, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), were revealed in response to a question on the total number of contempt cases across the Supreme Court and various High Courts in India. The data, sourced from the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), highlights the backlog of contempt petitions, which involve non-compliance with judicial orders. While the Supreme Court of India has 1,852 pending contempt cases, various High Courts collectively account for 1.43 lakh pending cases, with the J&K and Ladakh High Court among them. The government, in its response, said the reasons for non-compliance with court orders are not centrally documented, as implementation responsibilities lie with respective administrative ministries and departments—(KNO)
